BACTERIAL VACCINES
AVANT's Vectored Vaccine technology is ideally suited to the creation of a wide variety of single-dose, oral vaccines that protect against important bacterial illnesses that are endemic to many parts of the world. Global Health Vaccines Bacterial illnesses such as cholera and typhoid fever are still major health care threats in many less developed parts of the globe. AVANT's oral, bacterial vaccine technology is ideally suited to addressing such important global health care problems. AVANT's vaccines provide potential avenues to disease prevention with notable advantages over drugs in terms of disease prevention, ease of use, patient convenience, temperature stability for storage and distribution, and cost. Travelers' Vaccines AVANT's single-dose, oral vaccines also provide great opportunities for the rapid, effective protection of travelers from serious bacterial, diarrheal illnesses. AVANT currently has three travelers vaccine programs addressing important worldwide causes of serious diarrheal illnesses and enteric fever in clinical and preclinical development: typhoid fever, enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC), and paratyphoid A. AVANT is pursuing a strategy to develop a combination travelers' vaccine from these programs. Market research indicates that a combination product containing ETEC - cholera and typhoid fever vaccines addressed to the travelers' market could achieve annual peak sales of over $500 million. |
